Jackie and The Treehorns latest release finds the band once again exploring some new sonic territory. Recording for first time with producer J. Robbins (notably a member of Jawbox, J. Robbins Band, Burning Airlines, and Channels and producer of such bands as War On Women, Clutch, The Sword, Faraquet, The Dismemberment Plan, and Bacchae) this EP is the logical next step in their musical evolution.
This collection of four songs touches on themes of playing music as you get older (“Are We Not Dinosaurs?”), our place within the animal kingdom (“Animals”), dealing with mid-life (“Half Life”), and good vs. evil from an unusual perspective (“Goin’ To My Head”) – a remake of the old Jackie classic, “The Life and Times of Mr. Happy.”
While the band still knows how to rock out when it wants to, it has also found itself settling into more loop-based textures and dynamics and aren’t afraid to put the guitars aside when needed.
Jackie likes to ask questions: Do you mind if I wear a clown mask? Are you for real? And now he asks: are we not dinosaurs? Listen and find out.
